Oncology Nurses Give High Marks to Oncology Nurse Advisor Journal

NEW YORK, Nov. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent Oncology Nurse Advisor (ONA) readership survey found that nearly 60% of Oncology Nurses always read the journal, and almost half gave ONA the highest possible rating for overall quality; providing practical, useful information; and keeping readers abreast of the latest information.

Launched in May 2010, Oncology Nurse Advisor offers clinical updates and evidence-based guidance to the oncology nurse community and includes regular coverage of topics such as the safe handling and administration of chemotherapy drugs, side effect management, new developments in specific cancers, palliative care, communication with patients and family, and cancer survivorship. Each edition includes free continuing education credits.

Over the course of its first year, the publication significantly expanded both its print and online content, offering oncology nurses and health care professionals even more practical information and resources. A new features department, Case Study, was added in October 2010. This section contains illustrative case reports with accompanying teaching points. According to the readership survey, nearly 70% of respondents, the highest number of votes for any department, have already indicated that they would like to see more Case Study articles.

Oncology Nurse Advisor continues to enhance its digital offerings. Keeping with the fast-paced demand for online media, all articles are posted online-ahead-of-print at OncologyNurseAdvisor.com, allowing readers to preview articles of interest before publication. In addition, Web-exclusive news briefs on the latest cancer research are added daily. A recent introduction to the Web site is For Your Patient, a comprehensive microsite that provides resources on advocacy, support groups, financial assistance, clinical trials, palliative care and hospice, and general cancer information. With this new online offering, cancer patients can find links to in-depth information about all the most important topics in one easy to access location.

Over the course of the next year, the publication plans to introduce a commentary department, a new section on surgical oncology, an online microsite on self-care for oncology nurses, and a general medicine update page. Starting with the American Society of Hematology meeting in December 2010, Oncology Nurse Advisor will also provide live medical conference coverage online, offering readers the chance to view reports about late breaking oncology research.
