One week left for applicants to enter "Veterans Business Battle"
HOUSTON, Jan. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nearly 100 veterans have submitted a business plan to compete in the first-ever EO-Houston Veterans Business Battle with more than a week remaining before applications close.
This business plan competition, hosted by Entrepreneurs' Organization-Houston and Rice University's Veterans in Business Association, will be dedicated to creating and growing veteran-founded businesses. Selected finalists will have an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of successful entrepreneurs and qualified investors at the EO-Houston Veterans Business Battle on February 28 at Rice University. It is the goal of the competition to invest $1 million in veteran-owned companies.
Several applicants have started crowdfunding campaigns through Twistrate.com for a chance to be automatically entered into the finals.
"We are encouraged by the support the Veterans Business Battle has received from investors and partners and are amazed by the business ideas that have already been submitted," said Entrepreneurs' Organization-Houston President Mark Martin.
Investors from the Mercury Fund, the Houston Angel Network and Honor Capital have committed to the event, along with other private groups of investors. The City of Houston, the U.S. Small Business Administration and Rice University have also stepped up to support the event as community partners.
To compete, individuals or teams must submit a business plan through the competition's website, www.vetbizbattle.com, by January 31, along with documentation verifying their service. Finalists will be notified by Feb. 15 of their invitation to participate in the Feb. 28 event at Rice University.
