Before gaining international recognition for his art, he was a quantum physicist contributing to groundbreaking research now found in textbooks. Born in Hamburg, Germany, into a family of artists, he initially pursued science, studying under Nobel Prize-winning physicist Anton Zeilinger. His work explored how the everyday world emerges from the strange realm of quantum mechanics. But in 2001, Voss-Andreae took an unexpected turn, leaving physics behind to study sculpture in the United States. Today, his art merges these disciplines, bringing quantum concepts to life through sculptures that challenge perception.

His signature works shift and even vanish as the viewer moves—an effect achieved by meticulously spaced stainless steel slices that echo quantum wave functions. These sculptures exist in four dimensions, with time as a crucial element. "Voss-Andreae's sculptures are more than just static objects; they change as you take the time to move around them, revealing new perspectives with every step," says Christian Hohmann, his longtime art dealer. "This dynamic quality makes them truly immersive experiences, pushing the boundaries of what sculpture can be."

Among his most recent successes is Quantum Astronaut, a striking piece that took social media by storm. A short video of the prototype went viral, amassing over 90 million views and creating overwhelming demand. His work was sold out for two years, forcing the postponement of this solo exhibition—twice—simply because there was nothing left to sell.

Now, HOHMANN Fine Art presents Ontological Relief and the Illusion of Matter, a solo exhibition showcasing Voss-Andreae's visionary sculptures. Throughout their decade-long collaboration, Christian Hohmann has placed the artist's works in esteemed private and public collections worldwide. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see a comprehensive selection of Voss-Andreae's work, made possible through the generosity of collectors willing to delay receiving their sculptures for the show.

Founded in 1976, HOHMANN Fine Art has built a nearly 50-year legacy of presenting significant contemporary art.
