OpenNebula 5.6 "Blue Flash" Released
New stable release of the leading open-source enterprise-grade solution to build private clouds on KVM and VMware.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenNebula 5.6, code-named "Blue Flash", is the fourth update release of the OpenNebula 5 series. Almost every component of OpenNebula has been reviewed to target usability and functional improvements driven by the needs of thousands of users that include industry leaders such as BlackBerry, Akamai, Runtastic, CA Technologies, Hitachi Vantara, Booking and King, and research centers such as Harvard University, ESA and SURFsara. As an enterprise-class product, OpenNebula offers a seamless upgrade path to the most current version.
The new version brings several improvements to enhance robustness and scalability in the core and the interfaces. Sunstone dashboard has been redesigned to provided sensible information in a more visual and responsive way. Blue Flash also includes several quality of life improvements for end-users. In particular, it is now possible to schedule periodic actions on virtual machines. OpenNebula also brings a built-in integration with Docker to simplify the provision and management of Dockerized applications.
5.6 ends the major redesign on the vCenter driver started in 5.4, particularly in the import process, which has been streamlined. The integration with vCenter features stability and performance improvements, as well as important new features like an extended multi-cluster support, marketplace integration and a redesigned importation workflow with new Sunstone tabs as well as a new CLI. OpenNebula will run booths at VMworld US in Las Vegas on 26-30 August and VMworld EU in Barcelona on 5-8 November to showcase these new features.
The seventh edition of the OpenNebula community event will be held in Amsterdam on 12-13 November with keynote speakers from Booking, King and Inoreader. OpenNebula Conferences are education events that serve as a meeting point of cloud users, developers, administrators, integrators and researchers, featuring talks with experiences and use cases.
