Operating Engineers Launch Road to Repair Campaign to Improve New York Infrastructure

ALBANY, N.Y., July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Greg Lalevee, Chairman of Engineers Labor-Employer Cooperative (ELEC) and business manager of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 825, announced the Road to Repair campaign will expand its efforts to tackle New York's crumbling infrastructure including roads and bridges, wastewater and drinking water systems, energy infrastructure and more.

"When we invest in our infrastructure we see a real return in jobs created and improved efficiency, and that means more money in the pockets of New York residents," said Lalevee.  "We are excited to join New York's business and community leaders' efforts to rebuild the state's infrastructure and grow the state's economy."

The American Society of Civil Engineers' 2015 Infrastructure Report Card gave New York a C- overall.  Of primary concern were the state's drinking water (C grade), bridge structures (D+ grade) and road infrastructure (D- grade).

Engaging with the coalition, ELEC helps to generate sustainable and broad-based economic and energy-security benefits for all.

The Road to Repair campaign builds on successful efforts last year to replenish New Jersey's bankrupt Transportation Trust Fund. This work secured over $16 billion in infrastructure funding over the next eight years to fix the state's roads, build better bridges, and improve public transportation.
