Operation Shower Honors Military Families One Amazing Group Baby Shower at a Time
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Military families serve alongside their uniformed loved ones in profound, often unseen ways; and few experiences highlight that sacrifice more than navigating pregnancy while a spouse or partner is deployed. To help ease the unique challenges faced by military moms-to-be, St. Louis-based nonprofit Operation Shower delivers joyful group baby showers in communities nationwide – providing these hidden heroes with not only many of the tangible necessities needed for the babies and mothers, but also an opportunity to share support and camaraderie with other women who are pregnant while on active duty or those keeping everything running smoothly at home while their loved ones proudly serve abroad.
Since 2007, Operation Shower has honored nearly 10,000 moms and moms-to-be during exquisitely designed showers conducted on military bases and other locations across the U.S. Every creatively themed shower for groups of 20 to 40 moms features a catered meal, traditional shower activities with prizes, and the distribution of Operation Shower's signature Shower-In-A-Box: a curated box for every mom filled with high-quality gifts that have been donated by generous companies and organizations. For those unable to attend one of the dozens of in-person showers presented each year, Operation Shower's B Is For Baby program ships out hundreds of gift boxes annually to thank military families for their unyielding valor.
It's a labor of love for Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey, who concepted the idea during her uncle's deployment. "While active-duty service members face their own set of hardships abroad, their partners back home take on the invisible weight of running a household, managing finances and grappling with the mental health toll of separation. And when a military spouse is expecting during deployment, they are shouldering one of life's most vulnerable journeys alone," says Morrissey. "In this high-stress environment, camaraderie with fellow military moms-to-be who truly understand their struggles is more than just a comfort; for many it can be a lifeline. Operation Shower was created because pregnancy should be a time of joy and support, not isolation and anxiety."
Camaraderie in military communities is more than friendship—it's a cultural value rooted in shared sacrifice and mutual care. For military moms-to-be, this network can transform the pregnancy experience from one marked by loneliness and uncertainty to one enriched with belonging. In addition to providing an uplifting celebration of motherhood, Operation Shower events help military women forge lifelong connections that strengthen resilience, enhance coping skills and facilitate vital practical support while providing a platform for communities to express their gratitude for everything military families do in service to our country.
Military moms-to-be report a heightened sense of appreciation and improved well-being after attending an Operation Shower event. "With my husband gone more than half the time on multiple deployments and TDYs (short-term assignments) as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician with the U.S. Air Force, Operation Shower gave me a rare gift—a connection with other moms who truly understood the challenges I was facing. That support was life-changing, and since then, I've had the honor of volunteering at 16 showers, sharing this amazing experience with countless military moms. Operation Shower changed my life and continues to impact it year after year," says military mom Alicia R.
