Ora's Alliance Presents a 'Concert & Conversation' with Award-Winning Peter Buffett to Benefit American Kidney Fund

DETROIT, Feb. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ora's Alliance, benefiting the American Kidney Fund, is proud to present "Life Is What You Make It: A Concert and Conversation with Peter Buffett" at the Max M. Fisher Music Center Orchestra Hall, home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The Emmy Award-winning composer, best-selling author, and philanthropist's program combines multimedia and personal stories with a cello-accompanied live piano/vocal performance, to give the audience an authentic, inspirational and impactful evening.  The event is the live companion to Buffett's New York Times best-selling book, Life Is What You Make It, which former President Bill Clinton calls "a wise and inspiring book that should be required reading for every young person seeking to find his or her place in the world."

The event promises to be a thought-provoking evening that will inspire the audience to follow passions over convention and do their bliss. By drawing upon his own life story and experiences, the son of famed investor Warren Buffett, discusses how important it is for each person to define his or her own path in life, regardless of their wealth or background.  He conveys that it is one's values—and what people are able to give back to society—that shape and define us as individuals.

Many of the 26 million Americans who suffer with chronic kidney disease do not have adequate insurance coverage to address their unique needs.  Moreover, there are 700,000 adults with this disease in Michigan and more than 300,000 at risk.  One of our beneficiaries, the American Kidney Fund helps over 101,000 patients annually with dialysis related expenses, with 97 cents of every dollar spent going towards programs and services.  Net proceeds from the event will assist kidney patients in Southeast Michigan.

Bankole Thompson, distinguished journalist, presidential author and senior editor of the Michigan Chronicle will serve as event chairman.  In addition, Conrad Mallett chief administration officer, Detroit Medical Center, will serve as the corporate chairman.
