Orion HealthCorp to Feature Data Mashup Solutions at RBMA Summit
'BI on Steroids,' Technology Helps Physician Practices Make Smart Business Decisions
ATLANTA, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Orion HealthCorp, a leader in medical billing and practice management for more than 20 years, today announced that it will demonstrate the data mashup capabilities of its Osmium(SM) Business Intelligence (BI) solution in booth 307 during the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) Radiology Summit in Orlando May 20-23. Data mashups are apps or webpages that combine data from two or more disparate sources into a new useful service. They are used today in consumer and business applications, and are making significant inroads in the healthcare industry, specifically radiology.
360-degree business view
"Data mashups are like BI on steroids," said Terry Bauer, president and CEO of Orion HealthCorp. "They can quickly link critical bits of information that are spread across multiple applications: financial accounting systems, patient billing systems, proprietary databases, spreadsheets, text files, etc. Using data from these and other unrelated sources, they create a single 360-degree business view that just hasn't been possible before."
For example, Orion recently deployed a mashup that helped a Houston radiology practice decide to pursue a contract with a hospital on the east side of town rather than in wealthier areas of Houston. By blending U.S. census data with the practice's financial data, the app showed an exceptionally strong reimbursement history per procedure for patients living in east Houston, where local oil and chemical companies employ many middle-class residents and provide good insurance coverage.
According to Bauer, mashups can also provide clear visibility into frequency of procedures and their reimbursement rates, as well as real-time status reports from a practice's reimbursement pipeline—no matter how complex. And they are fast and easy to deploy. "We think that is very good news for the industry in an era when transparency into relevant data is more important than ever."
Great potential for the healthcare industry
"Like many technology innovations, data mashups began in the consumer world with apps like Google Maps, OpenTable, and Star Walk," continued Bauer. "Today they hold great potential for the healthcare industry. We are excited about the opportunities they present for the radiology practices we work with, and we look forward to demonstrating examples of their value at the RBMA Summit."
Demos of Osmium and its data mashup capabilities will be available at Orion HealthCorp's Booth #307 at RBMA's Radiology Summit in Orlando May 20-23.
