Fengyi Zheng awarded an O'Shaughnessy Fellowship to replace subjective, geography-dependent motor function assessments with AI-powered home testing
GREENWICH, Conn., April 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- O'Shaughnessy Ventures LLC (OSV), an investment firm that empowers creators, has awarded an O'Shaughnessy Fellowship to Fengyi Zheng, a biomedical researcher and founder based in Boston, Massachusetts.
Zheng will use the fellowship to continue building BioMe, a platform that uses AI-powered motion tracking to measure motor function from at-home videos. BioMe turns home-recorded footage into study-ready measurements, removing the geographic barriers that limit who can participate in clinical trials and replacing subjective in-clinic assessments with more objective, consistent data.
A mathematics and statistics graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Zheng previously conducted research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where her work on CRISPR technology was published in the journals Cell Genomics and Nature Communications. She was also selected as a Broad Biomedical Post-Baccalaureate Scholar. She has since developed a working prototype of BioMe using open-source computer vision models.
OSV's founder and CEO, Jim O'Shaughnessy, commented, "The quality of clinical trial data influences which treatments reach patients and who those patients are. Fengyi is tackling that problem from the ground up. We're thrilled to support her in taking BioMe to the next level."
"I'm grateful for the O'Shaughnessy Fellowship and excited to be joining this community," said Zheng. "Underrepresented and biased data in healthcare are among the most important problems we face. They shape which treatments get built and who they actually work for. I look forward to working on this alongside a rigorous, diverse community that genuinely cares about the world."
