Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe and The Children's Trust to Celebrate National Adoption Day
Judges will finalize more than 60 adoptions, making this one of the largest adoption events in Florida.
MIAMI, Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Inc. (OurKids.us), The Children's Trust, the Florida Department of Children and Families, and the Miami Children's Museum will celebrate National Adoption Day at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, by finalizing more than 60 adoptions at the museum, 980 MacArthur Causeway.
The Our Kids event has been named Florida's official National Adoption Day celebration. Judges from Miami-Dade County Juvenile Court will officiate the adoptions in courtrooms set up inside the museum. There are more than 3,000 children in the child welfare system in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, and of those children, an average of 200 are available for adoption at any given time. Since its creation in 2005, Our Kids has completed about 2,400 adoptions.
"National Adoption Day is one of the most important events of the year for Our Kids and the child welfare system. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the creation of forever families while recognizing the hard work of the professionals, volunteers, community members and foster parents who ensure that the dreams of these children and families become reality," said Our Kids CEO Jackie Gonzalez.
State elected officials, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Miami-Dade County commissioners are invited to attend this celebratory event. Representatives from throughout the child welfare system will be present, including case management agencies: Center for Child and Family Enrichment; Family Resource Center; Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services; Children's Home Society of Florida; and Wesley House Family Services, among others.
National Adoption Day is a national effort to raise awareness about the more than 100,000 children in foster care.
