PA Consulting Group Leads the Debate on Cyber Security, the Insider Threat and Strategic Protective Monitoring

Jul 01, 2011, 08:19 ET from PA Consulting Group

LONDON, July 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

PA Consulting Group's cyber security experts Ed Savage and Bill Windle have spoken at IA11, the UK Government's leadership event for cyber security and information assurance, run by CESG/GCHQ.

As chairman of the conference stream 'Managing information risk in a cyber world - the human factor', Ed Savage spoke about how organisations can identify, recruit and retain the people they need to improve their cyber security and protect business assets. Bill Windle spoke about how organisations can use strategic protective monitoring to help manage the potential threat from insiders within their organisation as part of an integrated approach to cyber security. Bill drew on PA's current work with the UK government's Centre of Protection for National Infrastructure, where PA is helping to develop new national guidance on a holistic approach to managing people, physical and cyber risk in public and private sector organisations.

Ed Savage, cyber security expert at PA Consulting Group, says: "Cyber security, including people risk management and the insider threat, has become a priority for governments and businesses alike. Technical solutions are only one part of an effective defence; organisations today need to take an integrated approach, that includes people and organisational elements, in order to develop an effective cyber security strategy. Protective monitoring, which improves visibility and coherence across an organisation's cyber defences, is a key part of an effective defence, often significantly boosting overall capability with relatively little investment."
