Unclaimed, Jackpot-Winning Ticket was Sold in Pittsburgh
MIDDLETOWN, Pa., Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Lottery Cash 5 players, check your tickets: a jackpot-winning Cash 5 ticket worth $125,000 from the Aug. 18, 2012, drawing is about to expire.
Cash 5 prizes expire one year from the date of the drawing. Because that date falls on a Sunday, a prize claim must be filed by Friday, Aug. 16.
"We encourage players to always check their tickets because we hate to see anyone miss out on claiming a prize," said Lottery Executive Director Todd Rucci. "After all, the opportunity to win is why people play the Lottery in the first place."
The soon-to-expire Cash 5 ticket correctly matched all five numbers drawn, 01-12-24-34-40, to win $125,000, less 25 percent federal withholding. It was sold at Stanton-Negley Drug Company, 804 N. Negley Ave., Pittsburgh.
The Pennsylvania Lottery encourages the ticket-holder to sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim by Friday, Aug. 16 at any of Lottery's seven area offices or at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. Claims may be filed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at area Lottery offices and from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at headquarters.
Unclaimed, expired lottery prizes remain in the Lottery Fund and are used to support programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians.
In the 2011-12 fiscal year, the Pennsylvania Lottery contributed nearly $121.8 million to programs that benefit Allegheny County's older residents.
How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Players also win prizes for matching two, three or four winning numbers. Cash 5 drawings are held seven nights a week, and tickets can be purchased up to seven draws (one week) in advance. Odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1-in-962,598; the overall odds of winning any prize are about 1-in-10.5.
About the Pennsylvania Lottery: The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the only state lottery that designates all its proceeds to programs that benefit older residents.
