Palmetto Publishing Releases Mary S. Sabol's Poetry Collection on Trauma and Mental Health

The poems in Innermost Moods trace a harrowing arc through a childhood marked by cruelty and neglect, years spent moving through multiple foster homes, and the weight of setting out alone at sixteen. Sabol writes with directness about dissociation, sleepless nights haunted by intrusive thoughts, and a specific moment when she sat in a parked car at a public park with pills in her hand. The collection does not look away from these details. Instead, it renders them in verse that is urgent and visceral, built to make the reader feel witnessed rather than lectured.

What drives the collection forward is the tension between silence and disclosure. Sabol confronts the stigma that surrounds mental illness, the way diagnoses like bipolar disorder and PTSD can reduce a person to a label, and the isolation that follows when pain is buried. The stakes in these poems are immediate and personal. Survival itself is contested territory. Each piece documents what it costs to keep choosing life when the reasons to do so feel out of reach, and what it means to finally speak the unspeakable aloud.

Mary S. Sabol stated, "By sharing my darkest moments through poetry, I hope to offer comfort to others who may be experiencing similar struggles. My intention is to let readers know that they are not alone in their journey. There is solace to be found in connecting with others who understand, and together, we can find strength in our shared experiences."

The book enters a growing market for confessional poetry that addresses mental health without euphemism. Readers drawn to Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey or the spoken word performances of Sabrina Benaim will find familiar ground in Sabol's direct, unadorned style. With national conversations around mental health access and suicide prevention continuing to intensify, Innermost Moods speaks to adults between twenty-five and fifty-five who seek validation of their own lived experiences. The collection is positioned in the self-help and poetry space as both a literary work and a form of survivor testimony.

Innermost Moods is available for purchase online at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.
