Palmetto Publishing Unveils Lisa Masse Bremmer's Heartwarming Children's Book Celebrating a Family's Enduring Bond With Their Four Labrador Retrievers

The story begins on a farm, where a yellow Labrador Retriever named Lucky first appears as a puppy full of boundless energy and early dreams. When a loving family brings Lucky home, his life becomes intertwined with theirs in ways none of them expected. Along the journey, readers meet Lucky's companions, Blackjack, Tyler, and Charlie, each dog bringing its own personality, adventures, and quiet lessons. The book captures specific moments of laughter, mischief, and tenderness that defined the family's daily life with their pets.

At the heart of the narrative is a challenge familiar to any family that has loved an animal: the passage of time. As the dogs age, young readers confront themes of responsibility and compassion alongside the family. The book does not shy away from the reality that loving a pet means eventually facing loss. It asks how a family finds the courage to open their hearts again after saying goodbye, and how children learn resilience through that process. A foreword by Dr. Margaret Hiers, DVM, grounds the story in professional perspective.

The foreword, written by veterinarian Dr. Margaret Hiers, DVM, adds both a professional and deeply personal lens to the story. Drawing on a lifetime shaped by the animals she has loved and cared for, Dr. Hiers reflects on how pets mark the milestones of childhood and teach responsibility, compassion, and the bittersweet lesson of letting go. "Even after the sadness of letting a friend go, the sweetness of the shared love remains," she writes, capturing the heart of the book's message. A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine whose earlier career was in classical archaeology, Dr. Hiers brings clinical insight and heartfelt perspective to the family's journey.

Lisa Masse Bremmer stated, "I wrote this book because our dogs did not just live with us. They changed us. I wanted young readers and their families to see that the joy and the grief of loving a pet are both part of the same gift, and that gift stays with you forever."

Perfect for independent readers ages 6 and up, delightful read-alouds with little listeners ages 4 and up, and dog lovers of every age. It includes bonus activity pages, coloring pages, a Puppy Care Checklist, a Puppy Helper Promise, real character photos, and a special poem. Families who connected with titles such as Love Is by Diane Adams or The Forever Dog by Bill Cochran will find a similar emotional register here. As conversations around social-emotional learning and pet-assisted education continue to grow in schools and homes, the book arrives at a moment when parents and educators are actively seeking true stories that help children process complex feelings.
