At the heart of the new SR1 II camera is a newly designed 44.3MP sensor and a new, high-performance L2 engine, a combination that unlocks the S1R II's sweeping set of upgrades. First introduced in the S5 II, the 779-point Phase Hybrid Autofocus system is bolstered by advancements in subject detection and tracking, as well as improved accuracy in face and eye detection. It's also very fast, clocking up to 40 fps blackout-free in AF-C and AF-S modes when using the electronic shutter. The expandable sensitivity range spans ISO 40 to 102400.
Handheld shooting is supported with five-axis image stabilization rated for up to eight stops, and the camera can produce images of up to 177MP when used in High Resolution mode.
The headline advancements belong to the video side, where the S1R II shines as the company's first camera capable of 8K video recording at up to 30p in 10-bit. Open gate 6.4K 30p and up to 4K 120p are also possible, both in 10-bit, as is internal recording in ProRes RAW. Up to 14 stops of dynamic range afford shooting in complex lighting scenarios, while several film simulations and color grading options are available, including Real Time LUTs, False Color, and a new Cinelike A2 photo style. Image stabilization is also possible while shooting video, including a cropless option, benefiting handheld capture.
On the audio side, 32-bit float is supported with an optional DMW-XLR2 adapter for achieving professional level sound in the camera.
The S1R II follows in the footsteps of its Lumix brethren with a dust, splash, and freeze-resistant build that encourages users to deploy its high-performance toolset outdoors. The tilting rear touchscreen and EVF simplify capture at any angle, and the Dual Slot memory options—CFexpress B and SD cards—accommodate the shooting speed and power the camera offers. The camera is compatible with CaptureOne tethered shooting and can save directly to an optional SSD drive via USB, supporting studio workflows.
As part of the L-Mount Alliance, the camera is natively compatible with all L-mount lenses, including those from Leica and Sigma.
