Parents are OK Launches a Privacy-First Senior Safety App for Families With Older Parents Living Independently

Razvan Girmacea, the entrepreneur behind Monitor Backlinks and Competitors App, and Daniel Damian, CEO of Hook Point Marketing, have launched Parents are OK: Senior Safety, an app that alerts families when an elderly parent's phone remains unusually inactive, without using GPS, cameras, microphones or mandatory daily check-ins.

The application takes a privacy-first approach to senior safety. Instead of continuously tracking a parent's location, Parents are OK runs quietly in the background and detects normal smartphone activity. If the phone remains inactive for an unusually long period, trusted family members receive an alert and can decide whether to check in.

The app does not use GPS location tracking or location history and does not access the phone's camera or microphone. It also does not require the elderly parent to wear an additional device or remember to complete a daily check-in.

"I didn't want an application that would allow me to watch what my mother was doing throughout the day. I wanted something much simpler: if normal activity suddenly stopped for an unusual amount of time, I wanted the family to know. The launch comes as ageing populations and changing household structures increase the number of older adults living independently. According to the OECD, more than 30% of people aged 65 and over across OECD countries were living alone in 2022, a proportion that has increased over the past decade.
