The W.C. Daugherty parent program also will include seminars on immigration rights and parenting with love and logic.
"We are thrilled to partner with State Farm® in this initiative that helps alleviate parents' anxiety and confusion about the college-going process. State Farm's contribution will ensure that many parents have the tools to give their children a better opportunity to succeed in the future," said Lupita Colmenero, Chair and Founder of Parents Step Ahead. "Our goal is to help parents become their children's personal counselors and cheerleaders, which will make college preparation and career readiness more attainable."
Parental involvement is crucial in the college-application process, Colmenero explained. Students need their parents' support and parents need to work with their children on filling out applications and deadlines.
Parents Step Ahead partners with local, Dallas-Fort Worth area school districts, community organizations and businesses to host school-based parent programs that educate parents on the importance of parental involvement and provide them the tools needed to be proactive in their children's education.
