Pareto Networks Names Daniel Ryan CEO
Former McAfee Executive to Lead Pioneering Cloud-based Networking Start-Up
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Pareto Networks (www.paretonetworks.com) announced Daniel "Dan" Ryan, former executive vice president and general manager of McAfee's (MFE) network security business unit, will serve as CEO of the Cloud-based networking company. Under his leadership, Pareto plans to transform the way businesses deploy and operate their distributed networks, leveraging the economies of the cloud to accelerate and simplify network deployments and ongoing operations.
"It's not every day you have the opportunity to revolutionize an industry," said Dan Ryan. "It's been almost 15 years since networking underwent any serious change, and I am excited to be at the company leading the charge. I was drawn to Pareto's unique position to drive complexity and large capital investments out of the network and accelerate an enterprise's ability to securely scale their distributed network."
Prior to joining Pareto Networks, Dan Ryan was the executive vice president and general manager for the network security business unit of McAfee, Inc. There he was responsible for driving the worldwide growth of the $500M network and content security segments, overseeing the introduction and integration of numerous industry-leading products, including network intrusion prevention, firewalls, and secure mail and web gateways.
Ryan joined McAfee in 2008 when it acquired Secure Computing (SCUR) for $465M. As president, chief executive officer, and director of Secure Computing, he was responsible for the $250M industry leader in enterprise network and gateway security solutions, which included the pioneering web security delivered as-a-service offering. Prior to its acquisition by McAfee, Ryan oversaw two acquisitions and a substantial divestiture.
Prior to Secure Computing, he was senior vice president of enterprise content management products at Oracle after their acquisition of Stellent in 2006 for $440M. Ryan served as president and chief operating officer at Stellent (STEL), which became an industry leader in enterprise content management during his tenture, growing from $2M to approximately $130M at the time of the acquisition. Also during his tenure at Stellant, Ryan drove several acquisitions, and participated in two secondary offerings that raised approximately $200M.
Ryan came to Stellant from Foglight Software, a venture-funded startup and an early innovator in e-commerce and multi-tier application performance management that was ultimately acquired by Quest Software. At Foglight, he was the vice president of marketing and business development, which marked just one of a variety of marketing, product management, sales, and business development roles he has held during his career, which has spanned numerous network and system technology companies, including Compact Devices and Sync Research (SYNX).
Dan received his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Economics from University of Minnesota.
