Parked Innovations Launches Dwell Behind the Shield, Inviting Safe Parking Organizations Nationwide to Participate

Los Angeles automotive company founded by IATSE Local 80 grip Ricardo Kennedy launches national initiative offering sponsor-funded Vehicle Dash Privacy Shields to eligible Safe Parking participants

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Parked Innovations, LLC, a Los Angeles-based automotive accessory company, today announced the launch of Dwell Behind the Shield, a national initiative designed to provide sponsor-funded Vehicle Dash Privacy Shields to people registered with qualifying Safe Parking programs.

The initiative was created by Parked Innovations President Ricardo Kennedy, an IATSE Local 80 grip with production credits including Netflix's The Residence, Nemesis, and Hulu's Reasonable Doubt.

Dwell Behind the Shield grew directly from Kennedy's experience with housing loss following the 2023 Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes, when declining entertainment work eventually led him to live in his vehicle.

"When your vehicle becomes the place where you sleep, change clothes, eat and spend your private time, privacy means something completely different," Kennedy said. "I began thinking about how exposed the windshield leaves someone and why there wasn't a practical solution designed around that experience."

That question led Kennedy to develop the patent-pending Vehicle Dash Privacy Shield (VDPS). Designed exclusively for parked vehicles, the VDPS creates a privacy barrier across the windshield while integrated privacy mesh allows occupants to maintain outward visibility.

Vehicular homelessness represents a significant part of the broader homelessness landscape. RAND Corporation's Los Angeles Longitudinal Enumeration and Demographic Survey (LA LEADS) found that 11% of unsheltered respondents surveyed in Hollywood, Skid Row and Venice reported living in a vehicle. RAND research also found privacy among the factors influencing how unhoused people evaluate shelter and housing options.

Parked Innovations has invited over 26 Safe Parking organizations nationwide to participate in Dwell Behind the Shield. However, participation is not dependent on an individual Safe Parking organization formally partnering with the company.

Anyone currently registered with a qualifying Safe Parking program may apply directly through VehicleDashPrivacyShield.com for a sponsor-funded VDPS. Eligibility, funding and product availability are subject to verification.

The initiative begins in Los Angeles and will expand into communities with Safe Parking programs throughout California and nationwide.

Corporate sponsorship enrollment for Dwell Behind the Shield formally opens October 1, 2026.
