CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, a business law firm known for its general corporate, litigation, environmental, tax, real estate, lending and public policy practices, today announced the launch of a new client-focused program for its more than 200 attorneys and senior administration. Coined "Mini-MBA Program 2016," the year-long initiative will include monthly classroom-style lectures and workshops utilizing legal skills and enhancing business principles.
"Imagine the value to clients when their attorney(s) possess the balanced skills and abilities that can result from a law degree combined with learnings in line with a business degree such as an MBA," said Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer Kristen Leis. "Last year, we launched a program called "The Parker Poe Path" that had a very simple mantra: Build and sustain superior relationships. Now, we are continuing our quest by building off of "The Path" program and focusing on the language of business. It's a very exciting time for Parker Poe."
The curriculum will involve a series of guest lectures and group dialogue where top thought leaders impart their knowledge on various business subjects that often come standard with an MBA education. The in-house modules are intended to teach Parker Poe attorneys and senior administration what today's business community expects from their legal counsel. Each course will be streamed live across Parker Poe's seven offices across the Southeast.
The "Mini-MBA" program kicks off today, Wednesday, April 27 with an interactive course on the economics of law and understanding business client financials, led by Timothy B. Corcoran, a highly sought-after speaker on the business of law. At Corcoran Consulting Group (and as former CEO of Epiq Systems Class Actions & Claims Solutions), Tim advises leaders in the legal industry on business development, project management, and business improvement. Tim also authors the widely read Corcoran's Business of Law blog.
Future modules in Parker Poe's "Path" series will build on this program and include project management and process improvement, strategy and business development, leadership, organizational behavior, and more.
"Law firms need to be innovative in today's marketplace. Our new program represents a marked change in practice and client development and demonstrates the value-add that Parker Poe delivers to clients," said Tom Griffin, Parker Poe Managing Partner. "Our curriculum will ensure that our attorneys and senior administration thoroughly understand the business of law."
"Today's corporations need law firms that speak their language, and that starts with understanding basic business economics and how effective legal representation can improve business velocity," adds Timothy B. Corcoran. "This cutting-edge legal career development effort by Parker Poe helps pave the way for the future of how law and business interact."
