Patch Launches Its Local News Platform in Charlotte, NC

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Patch, the hyperlocal news platform with a presence in over 1,200 communities, announced its launch today in Charlotte, NC. The Charlotte Patch, led by veteran journalist and North Carolina native Kimberly Johnson features neighborhood and community news.

Recent news coverage in the Charlotte Patch includes a review of a new school bus GPS tracking app, local election results and the 50 best eateries in the Charlotte area.  

"I was born in North Carolina so the news I write here is very personal to me," says Johnson. Johnson says her goal for Patch is to offer more long-form reporting on social issues impacting the area, including gun violence and police reform.

Users can sign up on the Charlotte Patch to receive an email newsletter that sends the latest local news to readers each morning, as well as breaking news alerts. A Patch mobile app that can be customized to display news about readers' preferred locations is also available on iOS, with an Android version coming soon. Push notifications keep users informed on breaking news in their area. 

Johnson has over 20 years of professional reporting experience. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Johnson's journalism career began in community news.
