SEATTLE, May 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Innovelis, Inc. invents and manufactures mounts for media players such as Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku. As a company fueled by its inventions, Innovelis was surprised by how many companies were careless about violating its patents, even though infringing patents is illegal and punishable under U.S. law. With over twenty patents, Innovelis realized filing a lawsuit was the only way to stop companies from making mounts for media players.
Innovelis sued eleven companies alleging that they infringed intellectual property laws. On May 19, 2016, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania granted a PERMANENT INJUNCTION against ten companies. (The eleventh company settled out of court.)
The court order (in Civil Action No. 15-02661) states that the "Defendants, including its officers, partners, employees, agents, parents, subsidiaries, attorneys and anyone acting under the control of the Defendants are PERMANENTLY ENJOINED from manufacturing, using, selling, or offering to sell any product that infringes on U.S. Patent No. 8,988,616."
Eric Wengreen, one of the key inventors at Innovelis, said, "Seeing the court take such clear action to support us as innovators really helped restore my confidence in our strong legal system." Innovelis's chief patent litigator, Wes Schwie, said, "This kind of court intervention protects true innovators. It also fuels more innovation by encouraging companies to create their own inventions rather than just copy other people's inventions."
