Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative Welcomes Amy L. Gibson as its New COO

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative today named Amy L. Gibson, MS, RN, as its chief operating officer. As COO, Gibson will be the principal administrative officer of the PCPCC and will run the organization's business and daily affairs.

The PCPCC is organized to advance the patient centered medical home, the centerpiece of efforts to transform health care on a national level. Studies of the PCMH model show that it improves patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. It also lowers health care costs by improving care coordination and communication between primary care physicians and their patients.

The PCPCC is recognized as a nationwide leader of the movement, with membership quadrupling to more than 700 since 2008 and representing the nation's business leaders, consumers, primary care physicians and other health care stakeholders with a shared goal to advance the patient centered medical home.

Gibson most recently served as assistant director of the Boys Town Institute for Child Health Improvement in Omaha, Neb. There, she oversaw the Institute's activities, programs, fundraising and staff of seven. At the Institute, she developed and managed initiatives dedicated to improving the quality of care delivered in medical homes. Until January 2006, Gibson served as director of the National Center of Medical Home Initiatives at the American Academy of Pediatrics in Elk Grove Village, Ill.

Gibson received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her master's degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University.
