Paul Maritz Joins Warburg Pincus as Industry Advisor

Former VMware and Microsoft executive to focus on investment opportunities in enterprise software

NEW YORK, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Warburg Pincus, a leading global private equity firm focused on growth investing, today announced the appointment of Paul Maritz as an industry advisor in its Technology, Media and Telecommunications ("TMT") Group. In this role, Mr. Maritz will work with Warburg Pincus to explore investment opportunities in enterprise software, including the application of cloud computing and machine learning to business problems.

Mr. Maritz has 35 years of experience as a leading software executive. He is currently Executive Chairman of the Board of Pivotal Software, which he co-founded in 2013 and ran as Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") until 2015. Mr. Maritz previously served as CEO of VMware from 2008 to 2012. During his tenure at VMware, he led the transformation of the company and grew revenue by over 300 percent. Mr. Maritz remains a member of VMware's board of directors.

Prior to joining VMware, Mr. Maritz was the founder and CEO of Pi, which was acquired by EMC. Before founding Pi, Maritz spent 14 years working at Microsoft, where he served as a member of the five-person Executive Committee and was responsible for the product development and marketing of most of the company's products at the time, including Windows, Development and Database tools and Internet Explorer.
