PDFNJ: Governor Chris Christie Designates the Week of June 9th to 13th as Opioid Abuse Awareness Week
Hundreds of Doctors to Gather to Develop Strategies to Reverse Rx Abuse Epidemic in New Jersey and Release of Parent Testimonial Video Featuring Four New Jersey Moms Whose Children Were Impacted by Rx Abuse and Heroin Abuse to be Released as Part of Week Long Activities.
MILLBURN, N.J., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In commemoration of the first ever designation of June 9 -13, 2014 as Opioid Abuse Awareness Week, the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey (PDFNJ) will be coordinating several activities to bring public awareness to the issue of prescription drug and opioid abuse in NJ. On June 10, 11, and 12, 2014, a series of medical symposiums entitled Do No Harm are scheduled for Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, Community Medical Center, Toms River, and Cooper University Hospital, Camden, respectively to develop solutions to the epidemic of opioid abuse in New Jersey.
The resolution was sponsored by Assemblywomen Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande, and Senator Jennifer Beck.
The Do No Harm symposium series is being held in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration- New Jersey Division, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program of New York and New Jersey, New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, and the Medical Society of New Jersey.
Also, to commemorate Opioid Abuse Awareness Week in New Jersey, a new website TalkNowNJ.Com has been launched that features an emotional testimonial from four New Jersey moms whose lives have been impacted by the negative effects of opioid abuse. In the video, each of the moms provide important insight into signs and symptoms that other parents should be aware in order to help protect their children.
According to the resolution, "the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey are pleased to recognize the local, county, and statewide prevention, treatment, education, and law enforcement communities for their collaborative efforts in bringing public attention to the heroin and prescription drug abuse epidemic."
Through these initiatives New Jersey is demonstrating an effective strategy of brining all stakeholders together - including parents, government leaders, the medical community, law enforcement and the prevention and treatment communities in developing strategies to protect our children, explained Angelo M.
