PennDOT Accepting Applications for 2015-16 Transportation Improvements under Act 89 Multimodal Transportation Fund

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- PennDOT announced today that county and local governments, as well as other organizations, can apply for 2015-16 funding for transportation improvement projects under the Multimodal Transportation Fund created by Act 89.

"We want to ensure the benefits of Act 89, Pennsylvania's far-reaching transportation plan, reach as many communities as possible," said PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch. "The Multimodal Fund helps us make further investments in transportation assets across the state."

PennDOT will evaluate the applications and make selections based on such criteria as safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency, and operational sustainability.

The program is open to municipalities, counties, school districts, councils of government, businesses, non-profits, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, transportation management associations, ports or rail/freight entities.

PennDOT has $40 million in grants for fiscal year 2015-16 available for successful applicants, $35 million of which must be put toward highway and/or bridge projects. Applicants who previously submitted for fiscal year 2014-15 funds do not need to re-submit for fiscal year 2015-16 as their applications will be automatically considered if not selected for fiscal year 2014-15 funding.

Applications are due by Sept. 24, 2014.

PennDOT expects to announce grant recipients for the 2014-15 program this fall.
