WasteExpo Concludes a Record-Breaking Show, Grows North America's Largest Solid Waste, Recycling and Organics Industry Event 10% in Attendance and 34% in Education
The $85 Billion Industry Continues to Grow; Finds "Garbage is Good" and the "Waste Business is on Solid Footing"
NEW YORK, June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Penton's Waste360 Group today announced post show research shows over 50% of attendees plan to make a purchase as a result of attending WasteExpo. The record-breaking event brought together nearly 13,000 waste professionals, with over 2,000 international attendees and nearly 600 exhibiting companies, growing the event 10%. The education program also grew 34%. The industry finds that "garbage is good" and the "waste business is on solid footing."

Co-located with WasteExpo were the WasteExpo Investor Summit and The Healthcare Waste Conference. WasteExpo Investor Summit, produced in conjunction with Stifel, is the only dedicated gathering of corporate executives and institutional investors in the waste and recycling industry. The main takeaway of the Summit was that the waste business is on solid footing. There are concerns--including the cost of recycling--but overall the companies reported strong operations and outlooks for growth. The Healthcare Waste Conference covered the key issues and directions facing medical waste providers including dealing with the urgency of managing medical waste from pandemic outbreaks like Ebola. WasteExpo Investor Summit attendance grew by 40% and the Healthcare Waste Conference had record attendance as well.
The conference program offered a robust program with nine tracks and 60 sessions. "The Heavy Hitters" keynote panel brought together CEOs from leading waste management companies Advanced Disposal, Progressive Waste Solutions, Waste Connections, and Waste Management who gave their perspective on the trends, technologies and challenges in the recycling and disposal of solid, industrial and exploration and production (E&P) energy waste.
The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) honored 23 industry professionals at its annual awards ceremony. The awards included Drivers of the Year, Members of the Year, Chapter Leadership Awards and Distinguished Service Awards were announced, and four industry executives were named to the NWRA Hall of Fame.
Through the generosity of WasteExpo attendees, the Environmental Research and Education Foundation's (EREF) Annual Charitable Auction raised over $2 million to fund and direct scientific research and educational initiatives for waste management practices.
