LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- With the back-to-school season in full swing, BD&J – a personal injury firm representing clients in wrongful death, truck accidents, and more – has chosen to help one very special student achieve her career goals by providing $15,000 toward her school tuition and supplies. The 2026 Rising Futures Scholarship, a $15,000 scholarship presented by BD&J to assist adult students with completing their career training or educational programs, has been awarded to Dorothy "Dot" Jones – a single mother or two daughters, a small business owner, and a returning student attending College of the Desert's and Crafton Hills College's programs for radiology.
Dot Jones is a loving and devoted mother of two teenaged daughters, looking to advance her career and earning capacity so she can better support her family. Currently, Dot is a small business owner of a custom cake bakery called Dot's Cakes, but she has decided to take the leap into the more lucrative field of radiology in order to earn more money for herself and her daughters. Dot's caring nature and eagerness to help others in healthcare as well as her family made her an obvious recipient for this first annual Rising Futures Scholarship. "Dot is vibrant, kind, and whip smart," remarks Co-founder Kevin Danesh on the scholarship's first recipient, "I could not be prouder of her ambition and energy. We're honored to be part of her journey."
The Rising Futures Scholarship is a new initiative created by BD&J to not only connect with community members throughout California, but also to provide real, valuable help for those trying to make ends meet or advance a career. Many BD&J attorneys understand the stress and financial strain pursuing higher education or job training can take on an adult with bills to pay and a family to care for. With this empathy in mind, the Rising Futures Scholarship was born. "I own my own business, Dot's Cakes, where I make custom cakes for the last 16 years. Over the years, I knew it wasn't going to be enough to support myself and my girls," shares Dot Jones, "This will definitely help me and my family go towards my future in the radiology field."
BD&J offers one Rising Futures Scholarship per year and has closed submissions for the 2026-2027 school year. However, the firm encourages both first-time and returning students to apply for the 2027-2028 scholarship in May 2027. Interested students can visit the website to learn more about the scholarship or follow the firm's social media channels to stay abreast of scholarship deadlines.
