(PG&E) reminds customers to always call 811 before any digging project to have underground utility lines marked. This is a free service for everyone. Striking a single line can cause injury, incur repair costs or fines, and result in inconvenient outages to an entire neighborhood.
When calling 811, homeowners and contractors are connected to their local One Call Center, which notifies the appropriate utility companies—such as PG&E—of their intent to dig. Professional locators are then sent to the requested digging site to mark the underground lines with flags, spray paint or both.

"August 11 provides a great opportunity to remind our customers about the importance of calling 811 before any residential or commercial digging project.
