Philippe Cousteau to Host CNN's Going Green Series

ATLANTA, March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CNN International announced today that environmentalist Philippe Cousteau will be the network's host and special correspondent for the successful Going Green specials during 2011. With the network's promise to take viewers beyond borders to deliver intelligent programming for an interconnected world, the partnership reaffirms CNN's commitment to report environmental stories that are changing our planet.

Cousteau will present four special programs throughout the year that will include reports ranging from the technology that is being developed to the people who are making a difference in the green movement. The programs have four distinct focuses: Green Light for Business, Green Pioneers, Your Green World and Our Green Future. They will be broadcast to CNN's worldwide audience in more than 200 countries. Cousteau hosted two installments of the series in 2010 that featured his reporting on the degradation of the world's coral reefs and his journey to Mexico to find oil left behind from a major spill there more than 30 years ago.

In addition to presenting the four Going Green special programs, Cousteau will also be going on various special assignments for CNN this year, including an expedition to the Arctic Circle near the North Pole focusing on extreme science. For this first special expedition Philippe will take the viewers on a journey where scientists study global warming in one of the coldest places on earth. He will witness some of the world's most important research done in some of the world's most extreme conditions and translate to the viewers what the impact of this science means. The program will air later this year.

Philippe Cousteau is the 31-year-old son of Jan and Philippe Cousteau Sr., and the grandson of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau. As a member of the legendary family, Philippe is continuing the work of his father through EarthEcho International (www.earthecho.org), the non-profit organization he founded with his sister and mother and of which he serves as CEO. Each Going Green series begins with a week of programming that airs during CNN International newscasts. In April, the reports will be dedicated to the impact businesses have in the world and what they are doing to become environmentally friendly. The series concludes with a half hour special hosted by Cousteau titled "Green Light for Business", airing April 16 at 3:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 at 2:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 10:30 p.m. (All times Eastern).
