Ping An Technology garners China's most coveted awards for achievements in AI

SHANGHAI, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The 8th Wu Wenjun AI Science & Technology Award, regarded as the highest award for intelligence technology in China, announced the winners of the 2018 session. Ping An Technology's Ping An Brain, a big data AI engine, received the Enterprise Technology Innovation Engineering Program Award.

The Wu Wenjun AI Science & Technology Award is named after Wu Wenjun, an artificial intelligence pioneer and one of only two recipients of the inaugural State Preeminent Science and Technology Award. Under the leadership of the National Office for Science & Technology Awards and organized by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, the provincial-level award is widely known as the supreme award in China's intelligence science and technology, and represents the highest national honor in the AI sector.

Since 2012, the Wu Wenjun AI Science & Technology Award has been coveted by more than 700 leading universities and companies including Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tencent and Baidu. An anonymous jury, consisting of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering as well as winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, is designed to ensure the fairness of the competition. The high elimination rate of the projects ensures the high quality of the awards., therefore, it is the most influence and credibility awards in the industry. A total of 110 enterprises entered nomination this year, but only 11 of them awarded. In addition to Ping An Brain, programs from a number of leading AI unicorn companies were awarded, including Qihoo 360 and Horizon Robotics.

Ping An Brain was completed by the Ping An technology intelligent engine team which was led by Dr. Xiao Jing, the chief scientist of Ping An group.

The project lasted nearly three years, launched Crius smart recommendation system, OLATOP, disease prediction, smart auto damage detection, service robot, and other products for combining technology and application scenarios tightly, and provide AI products and solutions in various fields.
