Over 60,000 individuals served and $13.7 million in emergency aid delivered
WESTPORT, Conn., Oct. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Pink Aid, the only national nonprofit delivering emergency financial aid to breast cancer patients within 48 hours, is celebrating 15 years of compassionate service, having provided $13.7 million in assistance to more than 60,000 individuals since its founding.
Created in 2011 by Amy Katz, Andrew Mitchell-Namdar, Renee Mandis, and Amy Gross, Pink Aid was born from a critical need: while treatments for breast cancer have advanced, one in three patients still faces financial collapse. Many lose their jobs, delay care, or risk eviction while battling for their lives. The founders envisioned a community of care to ensure patients never have to choose between treatment and basic necessities like food and shelter.
That mission has never been more urgent. Breast cancer remains the most expensive cancer to treat, costing patients and families more than $3 billion out-of-pocket annually. Pink Aid helps ease that burden with compassion at its core. More than 90% of the organization is volunteer-run, with many survivors paying it forward by helping others navigate the journey.
Through its flagship Pink Purse program, Pink Aid provides emergency financial assistance for essentials, including rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation. Hospital social workers verify referrals to ensure quick, effective relief. The organization also funds hospital and community programs, offers emotional support and mentorship, and fosters a nationwide network of survivors helping survivors.
"When someone hears the words 'you have breast cancer,' their world is turned upside down," said co-founder and chairman Amy Katz. "Pink Aid is there from that first moment to hold their hand, provide critical financial help, and make the terrifying feel less so. Compassion is the human side of this disease, and it's what sets Pink Aid apart."
What began as a local effort has become a national lifeline. Since 2015, the Pink Purse program alone has distributed more than $4.5 million in aid to 8,500 patients, partnering with 1,200 social workers at over 400 hospitals nationwide.
