Pipit Takes a New Approach to Independent Music Discovery and Artist Support

Built only for independent artists, Pipit combines direct fan support and fan-driven discovery, with no major-label artists and no generative-AI music.

Independent artists can now create a free Pipit profile, upload their music, build their presence, and begin connecting their existing fan base to Pipit ahead of the platform's broader fan launch.

Pipit was created around a simple idea: independent artists need more than another place to upload music. They need a place where music discovery, artist support, and the artist-to-fan relationship can live together.

Direct Support for Artists

One of Pipit's central features is Support. Artists receive a personalized Pipit Support invite they can share with followers through social media, websites, email, text messages, and other channels.

Fans can join Pipit for just $3.99 per month and choose an independent artist to support, with $2 of that monthly membership going directly to the artist. Supporters can also stream that artist's full catalog on Pipit during the month they support them. A relatively small community of committed supporters can create meaningful recurring revenue.

Social Built Into the Music Experience

Pipit also brings the social relationship directly into the platform. Through Pipit's integrated Social Feed, artists can share updates, photos, videos, performances, and behind-the-scenes moments with the people discovering and supporting their music.

Instead of releasing music on one platform, promoting it on another, posting videos elsewhere, and hoping an algorithm lets followers see it, Pipit brings those interactions closer together.

Discovery Chosen by the Listener

Pipit's Discover Wave gives listeners a more active role in music discovery. Nine musical categories define songs on Pipit: Genre, Flow/Journey, Mood, Sound, Vocals, Lyrics, Tempo, Studio/Production, and Region.

Listeners use those same categories to build their own Discover Waves and explore music based on what they want to hear, rather than relying entirely on a platform-generated playlist.

Discover Waves are also designed to remain alive, allowing newly added songs that match a listener's preferences to enter existing Waves over time.

No Major Labels. No Generative-AI Music.

Pipit is intentionally being built as an independent-music ecosystem. The platform does not accept major-label artists and has established a no-generative-AI music policy for artist uploads.

Artists certify that they did not use generative AI to create or replace lyrics, melody, composition, vocals, instrumentals, backing tracks, or musical arrangement.

Artists can join Pipit for free. In addition to direct fan Support, Pipit plans to compensate qualifying discovery streams at $0.005 per stream as its discovery offering expands.

Thinking Outside the Box & Inside the Crate

When the team began designing Pipit, they did not start by asking how to build another version of an existing streaming service.

They looked further back.

Before recommendation algorithms and automatically generated playlists, music discovery required participation. People flipped through records, dug through crates, asked friends what they were listening to, and took chances on artists they had never heard before.
