PITTSBURGH, Dec. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- This weekend, on Saturday, December 5, 2015, Pittsburgh high school students will be hosting TEDxYouth@Shadyside, an event that promises to bring together leaders, innovators, students, and teachers in the region. Tickets can be found at http://trustarts.culturaldistrict.org/production/47224/tedxyouth-at-shadyside.
A collaborative event between the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, TiE Pittsburgh, renowned photographer Joey Kennedy, Come Ready nutrition and other sponsors, TEDxYouth@Shadyside is managed and will be attended by predominately students. As part of the mission for the event, a commitment was made to donate one-third of the total tickets to local suburban and inner-city schools to attract the brightest young minds together.
"We are fortunate to be hosting students from North Allegheny, Neighborhood Academy, Pine Richland, Upper St. Clair, Taylor Allderdice, and more. The primary goal of the event has been achieved — we have been able to reach out to and engage with our peers," said Shaan Fye, the organizer driving the event.
Fye highlighted the inter-school success by referring to a key team member, Anna Wan, a junior at Taylor Allderdice. Through her efforts, she connected many of her peers to the event, sparking excitement outside of the school that Fye and many of the other members attend, Shady Side Academy.
"Our team has been the driving force behind our regional success. Through social media and email, we have stayed up to date on the ever-changing speaker and attendee lists between classes. Maintaining that school-TEDx balance has made the fruition of this event all the more exciting. When Shaan approached me 8 months ago with his vision, I would have never thought that together, our team would end up achieving so much," said Wan.
