MIAMI, Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Platinum Luxury Auctions, a market leader in the auction of multimillion-dollar properties sold on behalf of affluent homeowners, will offer two distinct properties this October at live auction events. On October 24th, a 98-acre luxury estate on the James River in North Prince George, Virginia will be sold at or above a reserve price of $2.5 million. The property was previously offered for $7 million. Platinum is conducting the sale in cooperation with listing brokerage RE/MAX Commonwealth of Virginia.
The following day on October 25th, Platinum is offering a 15,600-square-foot residence situated on 4.5 acres on Skaneateles Lake in Onondaga County, New York. Recently listed for $8.2 million, the property will be sold at or above a reserve price of $3.8 million. Select Sotheby's International Realty of Saratoga Springs is the cooperating listing brokerage.
"Both properties are not only impressive as real estate assets but also have an intriguing back-story," said Trayor Lesnock, Platinum's president. "In Virginia, we have a luxurious manor set amidst one of the earliest settled regions of our nation, whereas the property in New York has served as a presidential retreat for Bill Clinton and is a frequent vacation stop for members of Hollywood's Baldwin family of actors."
The Virginian manor is just 30 minutes from Richmond and has more than 650 feet of water frontage on the James River. The property's rich historical background is noteworthy for its link to the Revolutionary War, Civil War and both World Wars. As it stands today, the property is a smaller portion of the original farm known as Flowerdew Hundred, which was given as a land grant by King James in 1619 to the governor of Virginia, Sir George Yeardley. Flowerdew Town, as the site on the river was called, soon thereafter became the second permanent and continuously occupied plantation after Jamestown. The location also marks the spot where General Ulysses S. Grant arrived after crossing the river during the Civil War.
Various aspects of the estate serve as a nod to the site's history, such as its formal gardens and its lengthy, tree-lined driveway, resembling the style of the storied plantations and farms created by America's earliest families of prominence. While the property site is historic, its structures are quite contemporary. The 11,298-square-foot main residence was built and designed in 2007 by Daniel Ensminger and based on the classic New England shingle style of Robert A.M. Stern. It features 9 bedrooms, 8 full and 2 half baths and boasts custom finishes throughout, such as 17th century limestone mantels that were imported from France. In addition to the main residence, there is a large guest apartment, pool with adjacent pool house, freestanding sauna, separate caretaker's residence, 4-car garage and a boat dock with dual lifts.
While not boasting any historic features, the New York property also offers luxury, waterfront living, with 370 feet of linear frontage on Skaneateles Lake. The property has 10 bedrooms, 9 full and 2 half baths, a large boathouse, and separate guest quarters. Bill, Hilary, and Chelsea Clinton stayed at the estate during the Clinton presidency, and their photographs can be seen throughout the property. In addition, Hollywood's famous Baldwin brothers also visit frequently.
Although very much a small town, Skaneateles has long been known as a coveted destination, as it embodies the quaint allure of classic New England, with charming storefronts and brick-lined sidewalks, in addition to an abundance of hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, boutique shops and art galleries. Located 23 miles west of Syracuse, the community was dubbed by USA Today and TIME Magazine as having some of the best wineries in upstate New York.
