Plexxi Introduces Networking Tailored to Agile Datacenters, Distributed Cloud Environments and Big Data Applications

NASHUA, N.H., Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Plexxi, a pioneer of next-generation networking solutions, today announced three product starter kits that will make it easier for companies to adopt software-defined networking in a way that fits their networking environment. Plexxi's starter kits are designed for distinct uses -- agile datacenters, distributed cloud environments and Big Data applications -- avoiding the "one-size-fits-all" starter kit approach of some other vendors.

"We're entering a new IT era dominated by data and the application so companies have no choice but to update and tailor their infrastructure to keep up with the demands of mobile, Big Data and social media," said Rich Napolitano, Plexxi's CEO. "Plexxi's three new starter kits allow companies to create a software-defined networking infrastructure quickly and easily and choose an approach that best suits their network."

The three new Plexxi starter kits are:

• The Agile Datacenter Starter Kit provides a cost-effective means of basic datacenter compute and storage connectivity with integrations into OpenStack and vCenter. The Agile Datacenter kit consists of two switches, transceivers, cables, control software and OpenStack and vCenter integration modules. It is ideal for agile datacenters in both enterprise and public cloud environments.
• The Distributed Cloud Starter Kit provides a redundant high-performance interconnect between two datacenter sites that can be as far as 80 kilometers (50 miles) apart. The Distributed Cloud kit consists of four switches, transceivers, cables and control software. It provides 80 gigabits worth of connectivity across a single pair of fibers and is ideal for distributed cloud environments across multiple datacenters.
• The Big Data Pod Starter Kit is a scalable entry network that consists of six switches, transceivers, cables, control software and Cloudera and Hortonworks integration modules. It is ideal for early-stage Big Data application deployments of up to 436 nodes.

Plexxi's starter kits are available now and priced based on configuration starting under $100,000 with one-year support.
