Continued hiring underscores PMI U.S.'s investment in quality jobs as Stamford emerges as America's "Confidence Capital"
STAMFORD, Conn., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Philip Morris International's U.S. business (PMI U.S.) announced continued growth at its headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, where the company now employs more than 350 people, surpassing the approximately 200 jobs initially projected when PMI selected Stamford as the location for its corporate headquarters in 2021.
Since establishing its headquarters in Stamford, PMI U.S. has continued to expand its presence in Connecticut, building teams that support critical business functions across legal, marketing, communications, human resources, employee experience, commercial operations, strategy, digital, technology, analytics, and business operations. The business continues to recruit talent—from early-career professionals to experienced leaders and specialists—across a broad range of corporate and business functions, reflecting its ongoing growth and investment in quality jobs and the region.
"Stamford has become an important center for our business and an outstanding place to attract and retain talent," said Stacey Kennedy, CEO of PMI U.S. "The growth of our Stamford headquarters is a story about people. We continue to attract outstanding talent across disciplines ranging from legal and commercial to people & culture, strategy, and business operations, while the city's commitment to innovation and ability to attract skilled professionals continue to validate our decision to locate our U.S. headquarters here."
America's New "Confidence Capital"
PMI U.S.'s continued growth in Stamford affirms the strengths that originally drew the company to the city.
According to recent research commissioned by PMI U.S. and conducted by The Harris Poll, Stamford residents are among the most optimistic in the nation about the future of their community and the country. Stamford ranked No. #1 among 10 U.S. cities for confidence that their community (69%) and America (59%) are headed in the right direction, outperforming markets including many great American cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
"Confidence doesn't happen by accident. It's built when people see opportunity, investment, and progress in their community," said Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons. "The confidence Stamford residents express about the future reflects the momentum we've worked hard to create, and continued investments from world-class companies like PMI U.S. are helping strengthen that momentum for years to come."
The findings suggest Stamford has become the "Confidence Capital of America": a community where optimism, innovation, and belief in progress are unusually strong. Stamford residents were 11 points more likely than Americans overall to say their community is headed in the right direction (69% vs. 58%) and 16 points more likely to express confidence in the nation's direction (59% vs. 43%). The survey also found that 86% of Stamford residents believe the progress happening in communities like theirs shows America is more capable of change than it may seem, while 79% said their community has ideas that could inspire other communities across the country. Residents identified good-paying local jobs, healthcare, and education among their top priorities for future investment and innovation.
Invested in Connecticut, Invested in America
For PMI U.S., the survey reinforces what the business has experienced since establishing its headquarters in Stamford: a city defined by talent, ambition, and confidence in the future. Those characteristics continue to make Stamford a strong home for innovation, quality jobs, and long-term investment.
PMI U.S.'s growth in Connecticut is part of a broader commitment to being Invested in America and its future. Since 2022, the business has committed more than $1 billion to expand its domestic manufacturing, build new capabilities, and create high-quality jobs across the country, growing its workforce to more than 3,000 employees nationwide. These investments include a $1.2 billion commitment to establish the company's ZYN nicotine pouch manufacturing facility in Aurora, Colorado, which began commercial operations in July; a $232 million expansion of its ZYN production facility in Owensboro, Kentucky; more than $37 million to support expanded operations in Wilson, North Carolina; and approximately $50 million to establish a new Business Solutions Center in Tampa, Florida.
At the same time, PMI U.S. is investing in strengthening communities nationwide and in the places its people call home. Through more than $40 million in charitable contributions since 2022, the business has helped advance economic empowerment, support veterans and military families, bolster disaster response and relief efforts, and create stronger, more vibrant communities. In Connecticut, that commitment is reflected through partnerships with organizations including the Women's Business Development Council, Connecticut Foodshare, Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, and Stamford's Orchestra Lumos.
