BURLINGAME, Calif., Dec. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In its recently released report, Exact Ventures found that the Policy Charging and Rules Function (PCRF) server market grew nearly 40 percent in the third quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter of 2011. Despite a small sequential contraction due to seasonal factors, the PCRF market continued its overall upward trajectory as a result of the increasing need for operators to prioritize and control their mobile traffic.

According to the report, the introduction and growth of voice-over-LTE, which is latency sensitive, will reinforce the continued advance of the PCRF market. The PCRF market is forecast to grow on average more than 30 percent annually in each of the next five years.
"PCRF is a critical network component that enables operators to implement rules that not only prioritize and direct network traffic, but also assist operators in mitigating costs and complying with regulatory requirements," said Greg Collins, Founder and Principal Analyst at Exact Ventures. "The PCRF can also help operators efficiently deploy multifaceted revenue generating and customer segmenting services, such as data share plans, complex family plans, usage tiers, and 'zero-rating' applications that allow use of the network for free," he added.
In the third quarter of this year, Ericsson took the top spot for PCRF market revenues, followed by Tekelec, Huawei, and Openet.
