Polyurethanes for concrete flooring offer solutions for construction professionals
Decorative concrete takes the floor:
FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As we look toward the future, we may want to begin by looking down. There are a number of decorative and industrial concrete coating and sealer options for construction and design professionals seeking the latest innovations for enhancing and protecting floors.
Steven Reinstadtler, coatings marketing manager, Construction and Sustainability, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, will discuss this topic during "High Performance Coatings for Industrial and Decorative Floors," 8 a.m., Oct. 2 as part of the Concrete Decor Show education sessions.
Here's a preview of the high performance polyurethane floor coating and sealer technologies he will discuss.
- Waterborne polyurethane coatings and sealers – Typically applied in industrial, commercial and decorative high-traffic settings, these coatings provide excellent chemical resistance, durability, color and UV stability, and are easy-to-clean.
- One component polyurethane coating technology – These low-odor, one-component coatings based on waterborne polyurethane dispersions allow for performance advantages associated with two- pack polyurethanes, but in an easier-to-use, one-pack coating. This minimizes waste, as any leftover coating can be reused at the next application jobsite. They can be formulated as a coating or sealer as needed.
- Two component polyurethane coating technology – Based on polyurethane dispersions and an aliphatic isocyanate, both components in these coatings are ultra-low VOC and low in viscosity which allows them to function either as a topical coating or as a sealer or 'stain guard' type product. They are low odor so they don't disrupt other trades or building operations and cure to an extremely chemical-, stain- and abrasion-resistant film, and are easy to apply.
- Two component polyaspartic coating technology – With variable cure speeds, these coatings allow for a fast return-to-service in residential, commercial and industrial settings, have a moderately high film build and ultra-low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, and are color and UV stable.
"Many coating technologies are available to help construction professionals obtain desired effects when it comes to decorative concrete flooring," said Reinstadtler. "These extremely durable floor coating and sealer options offer excellent color and gloss retention, abrasion, scratch, and chemical resistance and allow contractors to offer sustainable solutions to their clients while preserving the beauty and functionality of the floor investment."
Participants of the one hour course will earn 1.0 LU/HSW through the American Institute of Architects for attending the full presentation.
