Pope Francis is calling on people to stop shunning the disabled. Currently, New York State is shunning the disabled, by bypassing 911 emergency services for those living in residential care facilities and group homes, says The Jonathan Carey Foundation

The Pope is bringing to everyone's attention, internationally, that of course, we should not be treating the disabled "unequally" or differently than anyone else. It is outrageous that NYS has not mandated, by law, that 911 be called, when people with disabilities, living outside of their family's home, are victims of physical and sexual assault crimes, in medical distress or have died. This is a "civil rights issue and discrimination" which is no different than what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought against.
Bypassing 911 medical and police assistance and services is extremely dangerous and deadly. Bypassing 911 for the disabled is how NYS and subcontracted private provider agencies are able to cover-up most crimes and suspicious, untimely deaths occurring within their own facilities and group homes.

No longer can NYS shun and ignore the basic equal rights of our most vulnerable by denying them their NYS and U.S. Constitutional Rights to "equal protections of laws."
The purposeful acts of keeping witnessed crimes of severe injuries and deaths from 911, local police, emergency medical personnel and County District Attorneys is treating the disabled as a lower class citizen and is "discrimination in civil rights." The 911 call systems were put in place decades ago in NYS and nationwide to protect and assist everyone, not to negate the disabled.
It is critical that NYS Senate Majority Leader Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Heastie bring the vital "lifesaving & discrimination ending" 911 direct reporting bill S6010/A8307 to the floor for a vote to STOP this gross injustice in order to save many lives.
