PowerHome Solar partners with Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil to direct commercial
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Five-time NFL Pro Bowl selection and Carolina Panthers standout Ryan Kalil had a chance to showcase his talents seated from a director's chair in November. Local solar energy provider PowerHome Solar gave him that opportunity, allowing him to call the shots for PowerHome's commercial that starred comedian Ryan O'Flanagan and included a number of Kalil's Panthers teammates.
Kalil was initially approached to star in the commercial touting the benefits of installing solar panels at one's home, but instead pitched the idea to PowerHome CEO Jayson Waller of being behind the camera and involving O'Flanagan and others to assemble a memorable spot.
"Jayson gave me a couple minutes to give him my vision of what it was, I promised him it would be funny, and he OK'd it," Kalil said. "He's been a great partner to work with and really kind of gave me free rein to put it all together, even to the point where he even let me bring out my own (director of photography) from (Los Angeles) which is Kevin Sarnoff, who is amazing. He brought my stress level way down coming out here to do this shoot."
Panthers players involved in the shoot included Luke Kuechly, Curtis Samuel, Greg Van Roten and Marshall Newhouse.
