PPL's Lake Wallenpaupack Welcomes Anglers in National Fishing Contest

HAWLEY, Pa., May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Somewhere in the depths of Lake Wallenpaupack a largemouth bass, walleye or a rainbow trout may be swimming with a $1 million tag and waiting for a juicy worm as part of the nationwide "Wanna' Go Fishing for Millions?" contest sponsored by Cabela's®, a leading outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor equipment.

"Lake Wallenpaupack is a popular destination for anglers throughout the year, and now they have another reason to come here in search of a possible million-dollar fish and other tagged fish that qualify for other prizes," said Paul Canevari, PPL's community relations director for the Pocono region.

"The contest is being conducted in several locations across the country, so when Cabela's approached the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission about a suitable location in Pennsylvania, we were honored that they chose Lake Wallenpaupack," he said. "If you haven't visited Lake Wallenpaupack, now's a good time to experience it and come prepared with your lucky lures and love of the outdoors."

Lake Wallenpaupack is one of eight lakes in Pennsylvania and one of 67 nationwide in the Cabela's contest with fish stocked with prize-winning tags. Bodies of water chosen for the contest are in states where Cabela's has retail stores. The contest started Saturday (5/14) and continues through July 14. Prize winners will be announced online after July 14.

Contest details are available at www.cabelas.com/fishformillions or at any Cabela's retail store.

As part of the contest, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will hold one of its "Fish for Free Days" on Memorial Day, May 30, allowing anyone (resident or non-resident) to legally fish without a fishing license. All other fishing regulations still apply.

The 5,700-acre Lake Wallenpaupack provides water for the Wallenpaupack hydroelectric plant, a 44-megawatt plant near Hawley that has been generating clean, renewable electricity since 1926.

The lake, located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, is an important year-round tourism and outdoor recreation destination. It's a comfortable drive from many cities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Thirteen miles long and about 60 feet at its maximum depth, Lake Wallenpaupack offers year-round recreation opportunities. Camping, fishing, boating and water-skiing are just some of the attractions.

PPL owns most of Lake Wallenpaupack's shoreline. Land is managed in harmony with the environment. PPL also provides environmental education and awareness opportunities at the lake. An environmental learning center, completed in early 2003, gives teachers and students new tools to discover the lake's natural resources.

PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., through its affiliated companies, owns or controls about 19,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets, and delivers electricity and natural gas to about 10 million customers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
