New Findings from Stericycle Expert Solutions 2020 State of the Nation Product Recall Report
INDIANAPOLIS, March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Pressure from consumer groups and lawmakers will likely result in stricter enforcement of safety regulations in the food, drug, consumer product, medical device, and auto industries in 2020, according to Stericycle Expert Solutions' State of the Nation Recall Insights Report.
Consumer advocates have been raising their voices, calling on lawmakers and regulators to step up consumer safety enforcement. Their efforts have drawn the attention of the news media and Members of Congress, who are joining the push for a stricter regulatory environment.
"The story for 2019 isn't in the data as much as it is in the media coverage, Congressional activity, consumer advocacy campaigns, and regulatory investigations and activity going on behind the scenes," said Chris Harvey, Director of Recall Solutions. "In 2020 we'll see tighter regulatory enforcement on the horizon, partly as a reaction to what some see as somewhat lenient regulatory practices, and an explosion of new products and perceived threats to consumer safety.
