Schaefer is an internationally known writer and speaker whose work has helped change the face of recovery from eating disorders. When her book, "Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder," originally published in 2004, the concept of "Ed" -- the externalization of "eating disorder" -- was not a familiar one. Schaefer appears regularly on national radio and television.
