EXPERT ALERTS:
How Businesses Gain From Eliminating Pain
Kevin Lombardo
President
DORN
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) -- pain in the back, neck and upper limbs -- affect 25.5 million people in the U.S. MSDs also affect a large segment of the workforce, from sedentary workers with carpal tunnel syndrome to plant workers with lower back pain. Companies are starting to realize the value of worksite pain management programs from both a risk management and wellness perspective: they help employees alleviate minor aches and discomforts before they become chronic without having to leave their desk or factory floor, improving both productivity and morale, while minimizing exposure to worker's comp claims. Says Lombardo: "An effective worksite pain mitigation program helps employees identify and address pain early. We have seen great adoption rates, with companies reporting higher productivity, a significant reduction in medication usage and overall high morale."
DORN is an early intervention/prevention program, delivered at the worksite, to treat employees who have painful muscular conditions. The program quickly, safely and effectively reduces employees' pain before it becomes a costly workers compensation claim, healthcare claim or OSHA recordable.

Peacock Revolution in Menswear
Joseph Abboud
Chief Creative Director
Tailored Brands Inc.
"Menswear changed dramatically in the mid-'60s through the early '70s. In the '50s, men dressed with a dreary conformity in nebulous, shapeless suits with little or no personality. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, menswear is turned on its head and the Peacock Revolution begins on what are now some of London's most recognized locations when it comes to men's clothing -- Savile Row, Kings Road, and perhaps the most celebrated of all, Carnaby Street. Nehru jackets, velvet suits, ruffled shirts and a gaudy helping of chains and medallions replaced those nondescript suits and airport coats almost overnight. Men's fashion was wildly out of control yet never more exciting -- that is, until now. Today, men's confidence is at an all-time high when it comes to their sartorial sensibility and their appetite for all things fashionable. With this new freedom of self-expression, men are truly dressing up, adorning themselves with more aggressive, bolder patterned suits, paisley jackets, pocket squares, scarves boutonnieres, tie bars, cufflinks, hats, and gloves. They now have a more liberated choice of clothes, prowess and stylistic individuality. This redefined masculinity has energized menswear very much like the original Peacock Revolution did more than 40 years ago, but this time around it is more controlled and infinitely more wearable. The new Dandyism we are experiencing is a testimony to the fact that more and more men have developed a truly sophisticated sense of style, and once again have the courage to step out and wear it."

Housing Sector Improvements Creating Options for Senior Homeowners
Peter Bell
President & CEO
National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association
Housing wealth continues to grow for U.S. homeowners aged 62 and older, providing seniors with added financial security in their retirement years. The aggregate value of senior home equity reached $5.9 trillion in the second quarter of 2016, an increase of $135.2 billion over Q1. As more baby boomers are leaving the workforce financially underprepared for retirement, home equity has become an even more valuable asset. The Bipartisan Policy Center recently suggested that financial instruments such as reverse mortgages will be useful tools for senior homeowners who seek additional funds for home modifications and services to stay safe and independent in their own homes as they grow older. Says Bell: "Healthy improvements in the housing sector are creating more financial options for senior homeowners who want to stay in their home as long as possible but who may need to make structural modifications or coordinate care services to manage living there safely and independently."

How to Spot a Co-Dependent on the First Date
Dr. Frieda Birnbaum
Research Psychologist, Psychoanalyst
"On your first date, expect the individual to go the extra steps in pointing what you both have in common and over-magnifying the significance and importance of these commonalities. These people want to go from 0-60 mph and be in a serious relationship quickly. Co-dependents seek within others what they cannot find within themselves, and your approval of them matters more to them than approval of themselves. Some signs that can be used to identify a codependent on the first date is to state that you disapprove of something they did (even if it's minor). If they begin to profusely apologize (several times especially), it's a red flag. Also, observe how many times they contact you after the first date. Try corresponding with them a few times and then stop for a day or half a day. If you get several text messages asking 'What's wrong?' or 'What did I do?" they're probably co-dependent."
Based in the New York metro area, Dr. Birnbaum is author of "What Price Power: An In-Depth Study of the Professional Woman in a Relationship." She's an expert on depression, women's issues, and attaining happiness.

- THE ELECTION ENDORSEMENT: WHY DO NEWS AGENCIES STILL BOTHER? The news industry takes pride in its objectivity, but picking a horse in a political race is a tradition many of the country's newsrooms still maintain. Whether news agencies should continue endorsing candidates is becoming as heated as this year's presidential election. Read more: http://bit.ly/2dxZUzO
- NEW FEDERAL REGULATIONS RAISE OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEWSGATHERING DRONE JOURNALISM. As many as 600,000 commercial drones will fill the air within the next year. That's the prediction from the Federal Aviation Administration in the wake of its Small Unmanned Aircraft Rule, which went into effect at the end of August. That includes news organizations and the journalists they employ. Although it's unlikely to ground news choppers, Part 107 of the Federal Aviation Regulations may change the way television stations gather footage -- particularly during breaking news coverage -- in the near future.
