Project Lifesaver teams with Xanboo to offer families and medical facilities peace of mind in rapidly locating those with cognitive conditions that wander

To help combat the issue of wandering, Project Lifesaver helps train public safety agencies to conduct search and rescue efforts by using state-of-the-art technology to find those who wander due to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, autism, Down syndrome, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury. Nearly 60% of individuals with Alzheimer's disease will wander at some point during the progression of the disease, and many will wander repeatedly.  Additionally, according to a survey conducted by the National Autism Association, nearly 92% of parents felt that their autistic child was at risk of wandering.

This joint venture between Project Lifesaver and Xanboo will allow caregivers the ability to order sensors, lighting controls, panoramic cameras, and/or additional security products that will allow them to be notified immediately should their loved one wander. The way it works is simple: If an individual with a cognitive condition wanders from the home, the caregiver is immediately notified on their computer, iPhone, Blackberry, mobile phone, etc. by email or sms that the front door has been opened or a breach to their security system has occurred. The caregiver can immediately check their camera (previously installed in the home) via an online portal, and check to see if their loved one is in the home. The caregiver will also call their local Project Lifesaver agency to let them know their loved one has just wandered, and a specialized Project Lifesaver team will be dispatched to the area. The officers will use radio frequency technology to pick up the signal on the client's specialized transmitter, and locate the missing person by honing in on the individualized tracking signal.

A basic security kit from Xanboo includes a wireless camera, one system controller, and a door/window sensor. Additionally, security cameras, sensors, and controllers can be purchased separately. The basic starter kit can be purchased from Project Lifesaver for $294, and the system can be manually set up or installed by an installation company, depending on the caregiver's choice.  Installation for this service requires computer access, Internet and a router.
