Proposed Jekyll Island Master Plan Available for Public Review

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga., Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Jekyll Island Authority is currently updating its Master Plan, the agency's guiding document for overall management of the state-owned island known as Jekyll Island, Georgia. The Jekyll Island Master Plan is a critical tool for managing the balance of limited commercial and residential development, the conservation of the island's pristine and delicate ecosystem, and the preservation of the island's natural and cultural resources. This plan is an update of the 2004 Master Plan, which was a technical update to the 1996 Jekyll Island Master Plan that was developed in response to legislative action.  The Jekyll Island Authority has utilized the services of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, a Unit of Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia, to assist in updating the Master Plan.

On September 16, 2013, the Jekyll Island Authority Board of Directors approved a draft of the new Jekyll Island Master Plan. The draft plan is available for public review.  The draft Jekyll Island Master Plan document may be reviewed and/or downloaded at http://www.jekyllmasterplan.org/. A hard copy of the plan may also be reviewed at the Jekyll Island Authority Administrative Office at 100 James Road, Jekyll Island, GA 31527.

A public meeting to review the plan will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013, in Rooms 7 and 8 at the Jekyll Island Convention Center.

Commenting on the Master Plan will remain open until November 15, 2013. The Jekyll Island Authority Board is expected to adopt a final version of the plan at its meeting in November.
