Do you need an automatic generator or a manual one? How much wattage? If you currently own a generator, have you had it professionally serviced this year? These are questions you'll want to ask yourself before purchasing a generator or maintaining your current one.
A manual, or portable, generator is a temporary solution, providing up to 8000W per unit. These are hooked up to your home or business and the breakers can be turned ON or OFF to meet demands.
There are also automatic, or standby, generators. These offer a more permanent solution and are more powerful, generating anywhere from 7KW to 20KW. Standby generators are permanently wired to your home or business and turn on automatically in the event of a power outage.
A standard 10KW automatic generator costs anywhere from $2,000 - $3,000, but when you purchase a generator through Mr. Electric, they deliver, install, and maintain the equipment, as well as address any warranty issues that may arise.
Before you set up an appointment with a certified electrician, such as Mr. Electric, be able to answer key questions regarding your home. Do you use natural gas or propane? Does your generator need to provide power for electric heat? Where is your electric panel located? And finally, what is the square footage of your home or business?
Take the step to protect your home during the winter season and purchase a generator. Doing so will keep your home or business in the clear, even with storm clouds overhead.
Don't forget regularly scheduled maintenance is one of the most important steps that you can take to help ensure a long life for your generator, so if you have a generator at this time schedule an annual tune up today.
