Provost Umphrey Earns Spot in 2016 Top 100 Verdicts in Texas
Trial win against apartment property owners is the fifth-largest premises liability verdict
BEAUMONT, Texas, Sept. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Lawyer has recognized Beaumont-based Provost Umphrey's 2016 premises liability verdict win for a Port Arthur couple injured when the roof of their apartment collapsed as one of the top verdicts of the year.
The jury award of $496,398 to Tyrone and Debra Phillips is listed as the fifth-largest in the premises liability category. Following a brief trial before Judge Donald Floyd in the 172nd District Court in Jefferson County, the jury found that property owners Now Paradise Group LLC had failed to maintain and inspect the apartment roof, which broke apart, injuring the couple.
