Psiber Data Systems Launches New Smart Analyzer, the LanExpert 85 for Copper and Fiber Based Networks

SAN DIEGO, May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Psiber Data Systems Inc. today announced the launch of LanExpert 85, a comprehensive hand-held network analyzer that provides expert assistance for all tiers of LAN installers, technicians and managers working with either copper or fiber media.

Network problems are a constant source of frustration and result in highly expensive downtime. The average cost of network downtime has sky rocketed as bandwidth demands have increased. Network problems reduce employee productivity, increase operating costs and degrade customer support, resulting in lost sales.

Scrambling to manage computer network glitches in the past required multiple testers to check the cabling physical layer, verify connectivity across a network, perform protocol analysis on captured packets, measure bandwidth capacity and identify failing or incorrectly configured switches. Additionally, planned upgrades required two testers to qualify segments before integrating into a network.

The LanExpert replaces multiple expensive tools, from cable length meters and fault locators to sophisticated protocol analyzers, traffic generators and industry standard (RFC2544) stress test systems with separate sets of test tools required for copper and fiber. The LanExpert 85 has synthesized multiple instruments and dual media support into a single handheld tool to meet a wide range of both enterprise and service provider installation and maintenance requirements.

Most enterprise networks contain a mix of physical layer types with copper at the desktop and fiber in the backbone and the data center. Complicating installation, maintenance and test is the diversity of fiber types, wavelengths and data rates along with an extensive installed base of 10/100/1000baseT. The LanExpert uses selectable SFP modules to test single-mode, multimode, bidirectional, 100Base-FX and 1000baseX fiber links and 10/100/1000baseT copper links either at the network edge in the single ended mode or in the network interior using the inline mode. "The LanExpert inline mode is a powerful troubleshooting capability that monitors actual data between network devices so that the user can identify and correct hard to find problems," says Darrell Johnson, President of Psiber Data Systems.

From the cable to the packet, the LanExpert 85 smart analyzer includes an expert mode which can identify up to forty problems and recommend corrective actions, making troubleshooting easier, with lower learning curves for users and less network downtime. The LanExpert 85 provides multiple test tools at a surprisingly affordable price.
